Modern Magic of AI
Shockingly fast, AI has transitioned from the realm of science fiction to almost the business norm. This article will cover: What is AI How long has it been around How AI works The future of AI and much more
A Brief History of Magic of AI
AI has its roots from as early as the mid-20th century, starting with the trailblazers like Alan Turing and John McCarthy. The first few decades of “artificial intelligence” research then: Researchers were trying to get machines to solve problems & learn at all, but in reasonable ways. At the same time there was a computing power and data scarcity.
AI was back with a bang in the 21st century fuelling advancements in computing power, big data proliferation and machine learning research. It is during this time, that highly advanced AI systems have been developed systems that are now able to beat humans in image recognition, natural language processing and game playing (see Alpha Go).
How AI Works
The idea of machine learning makes the idea of machine learning possible and at the core of AI, so unlike AI, which is static, machine learning is a type of AI. Pattern recognition is an approach of using machine learning algorithm which recognizes the pattern in the data and then used it to predict or classify.
- Supervised Learning: for training models with labelled data and learning to map inputs to outputs
- Learning without supervision: a supervised vs an unsupervised model, finding hidden patterns and structures in data
- Reinforcement Learning: a model is trained by trial and error and rewarded if the correct action is taken and penalized if the wrong action is taken →
AI in the Real World
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is changing the way we live and work, and it can be found in many industries. Examples of the most apparent applications include:
- Healthcare: AI tools for medical image analysis, drug discovery, and personalized medicine.
- Finance : Fraud detection algorithms and algorithmic trading and risk algorithms.
- Autonomous vehicles: Self-driving cars and trucks utilize AI to traverse roads and make real-time driving decisions.
- Chatbots and virtual assistantsfor customer service powered by AI
- Entertainment: Realistic visual effects using AI, personalized recommendations and music composition.
Magic of AI Future and Ethical Implications
Item · Dec 14AI is getting more sophisticated, but with that come major ethical issues about bias, job loss, and weaponization. We must create ethical standards and regulations around AI development and deployment.
While the future is bright for AI and some of humanity’s biggest problems can be solved with AI applications, the public needs reassurance that they can understand what AI can do and how it works. However, we also have to be mindful and prior to AI and put a checkpoint in place, that will have to be checked to ensure innovation and ethics are balanced in AI development.
Moving ahead, we should treat AI as an amplifier of human capabilities and a maker of a better world, while seeking means to minimize its risks. Uniting AI researchers, policymaker and ethicists allows us to make AI work for everyone.
