Items to Bring if You Vote (What to Bring When You Go to Vote)
In person voting does take a few things to go off without a hitch. What to bring:
ID
In some states you have to provide voter ID to vote. There are some frequently accepted IDs:
- Driver license or state ID
- U.S. passport
- Military ID
- Tribal ID
- Student ID (in some states)
Confirmation here varies from state to state, so check local with your local election office or official website. Other states allow you to prove your identity by presenting a recent utility bill, bank statement or government document with your name and address.
Voter Registration Card (optional)
In some states it does help to bring your voter registration card if you have it but it is not a requirement.
Face Mask and Hand Rub (Optional)
Face masks are recommended or required at many polling places, especially in tight quarters. Finally, hand sanitizer is a good thing to carry.
Sample Ballot or Notes
Previewing a sample ballot in advance and even bringing notes on candidates or ballot measures is worthwhile. Check your state for sample ballots; many know what’s on your ballot well in advance of election day on their election website.
Time What to Bring When You Go to Vote
